There’s something extra special about a basket that’s not just beautiful… but useful in everyday life.
Recently, I had the joy of teaching a Casserole Companion basket class at the Henry County Extension Office—and let me tell you, it was one of those days that fills your heart right up. We even had four first-time weavers join us (yes, FOUR!), and watching them go from “I’ve never done this before” to “Look what I made!” was pure magic.
More Than a Basket
The Casserole Companion isn’t just a basket—it’s a helper, a carrier, and honestly… a bit of a hero in woven form.
It’s designed to:
- Carry casseroles (of course!)
- Transport dishes to gatherings
- Hold baking supplies or kitchen essentials
- Even become a thoughtful handmade gift basket
And let’s be real… anything that helps us show up with food AND style is a win

A Perfect Project for Beginners (and Beyond)
One of my favorite things about this class was seeing brand-new weavers jump in and succeed.
There’s always that moment at the beginning: “Am I doing this right?”
“This feels weird…”
And then suddenly… The rhythm clicks
The pattern starts forming
Confidence grows
That transformation never gets old.

Whether you’re brand new or have been weaving for years, this project gives you:
- A strong, functional design
- Techniques you can reuse in future baskets
- That “I made this!” feeling we all love

Weaving = Connection
Classes like this remind me that basket weaving is never just about the basket.
It’s about:
- Laughing over twisted spokes
- Helping each other fix a row
- Sharing stories while hands stay busy
- Creating something meaningful together
That’s the real magic.
Why I Love This Design
The Casserole Companion fits right into my “No Stress Weaving” philosophy:
- Practical
- Beautiful
- Beginner-friendly
- Totally gift-worthy
And bonus… it’s one of those baskets people actually use again and again. Originally created for my friend Hazel and now enjoyed by many!
A special Thank you to Patti Roach for co teaching with me since I am still recovering from Thumb surgery.
Want to Weave One Too?
If you missed this class, don’t worry—you know I never keep the fun to myself for long
Keep an eye out for:
- Future classes
- Kits you can weave at home
- And maybe even a surprise or two inside the Hoot Basket Gift Club
Because honestly… once you make one, you’re going to want another.
Tell me—what would YOU carry in your Casserole Companion basket?
