Ever wonder what really goes into creating a basket—from that first spark of inspiration to the moment it arrives at your door? It’s a whole journey… and let me tell you, it’s equal parts creativity, problem-solving, and a little bit of “where did I put those scissors again?”
Let’s take a peek behind the curtain.
Where the Ideas Begin
New basket designs don’t just appear out of thin air (though wouldn’t that be nice?). Inspiration shows up in the most unexpected places:

Sometimes it’s nature—textures in tree bark, the curve of a vine, or the way colors play together in a sunset. Other times, it’s you—my amazing customers. A request for “something to fit a 13×9 pan” turns into a whole new design (hello, Casserole Companion!).
And then there are embellishments… oh, the fun of those! From simple accents to pieces that make a basket truly sing, I love finding little ways to add personality and surprise.

I write ideas down for future designs!
The Problem-Solving Phase
Designing isn’t just about making something pretty—it has to work.

- Will it hold what it’s meant to hold?
- Does it fit in the space it’s designed for?
- How much reed will it take?
- Is it beginner-friendly… or a fun challenge?
Sometimes I’m solving a “space issue”—like designing a basket that fits perfectly in a car, on a door, or in a cozy corner of your home. Other times, it’s tweaking a rim, adjusting a base, or reworking a weave until it feels just right.
There may be a few or many “well, that didn’t work!” moments along the way… but that’s part of the magic.
From Design to Kits
Once a design is ready, it’s time to bring it to life for you.

This is where things get busy (and a little messy!):
- Measuring and cutting reed
- Sorting materials into kits
- Gathering all the extras and embellishments
- Packing everything with care
- Labeling boxes so they’re ready to go

Every kit is put together by hand, with the same attention I’d give if I were handing it directly to you at a class or event.
💻 The Not-So-Visible Work
There’s a whole side of the business that doesn’t involve weaving at all—but is just as important:
- Updating the website with new designs
- Writing descriptions and patterns
- Ordering supplies (and hoping they arrive on time!)
- Answering emails and messages
- Planning upcoming designs and themes
It’s a mix of creativity and logistics… and sometimes a bit of juggling.
🛠️ Teamwork Makes It Happen
I may be the one designing and weaving, but I’m not doing this alone.

Ed (my amazing husband) jumps in wherever he’s needed—cutting materials, helping prep kits, folding boxes and labeling, and making sure things keep moving when my hands need a break. (And if you’ve ever had your scissors sharpened at an event… you know he’s a lifesaver!)
📦 The Final Step: Shipping Happiness
There’s something special about this part.

Boxes stacked, labels on, everything ready to head out the door… each one filled with creativity, care, and a little bit of joy.
Because it’s not just a basket kit—it’s an experience. A moment to slow down, create something with your hands, and maybe even surprise yourself.

💜 Why It Matters
Behind every basket is more than just reed and technique.
It’s inspiration from the world around us.
It’s problem-solving and persistence.
It’s community—your ideas, your requests, your creations.
And it’s a whole lot of heart.
Next time you open one of your kits or finish a basket, just know—you’re part of this behind-the-scenes story too.

And I wouldn’t have it any other way. 🦉✨
