Welcome back to the Offerings of Wonder blog, where we explore the timeless art and endless creativity of basket weaving. Today, we’re delving into a delightful project that has captured the hearts of many of our weavers: creating a cute turtle from paper or ribbon. This project is perfect for weavers of all skill levels and serves as a wonderful way to introduce novices to the joys of basketry.

Why Weave a Turtle?

Turtles, with their distinct patterns and appealing shapes, make for a fascinating weaving project. They symbolize longevity and patience, qualities every craftsman and craftswoman can appreciate. Plus, crafting a turtle from paper or ribbon is a fantastic way to reuse and repurpose materials you might already have at home, aligning with eco-friendly crafting practices.

Materials Needed:

  • Paper or Ribbon Strips: Choose colors that inspire you! Natural greens and browns mimic a turtle’s traditional coloring, but feel free to get creative.
    • Small Turtle:
      • 7 pieces of ¼ paper cut 12 inches long
    • Larger Turtle:
      • 7 pieces of ⅝” ribbon cut 22 inches long

Scissors/paper cutter: For cutting your strips to the perfect size.

– Glue: To help secure parts as needed.

– Small weaving tool – to help navigate through (optional)
